It may be nearly belated, but here’s hoping that you and yours had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I was watching Captain America (of all movies) the other night, and thought of how easy it is to forget, in the daily hustle and bustle, the thousands of men and women who died in WWII and the other wars this country has fought in so that we could come into this century as a free nation, so that we could continue to acknowledge that the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are self-evident. We are not a perfect country by any means, but it’s quite extraordinary that we did (and indeed still do) hold these truths to be self-evident, especially since there are so many in this world who do not and cannot. So, to all of those who have fought for self-evident truths and, on especially on Memorial Day, to those who answered the Piper’s call, we salute you. We thank you. We remember you.
